Day 9, Living Water International
Jeanne is a pastor’s wife and mother of four who is passionate about changing the way Christmas is done and changing lives around the world by providing clean water…a basic human necessity that we often take for granted through her work with Advent Conspiracy.

What if Christmas became a world-changing event again?
People are dying from the lack of clean water. In fact, it’s the leading cause of death in under resourced countries. 1.8 million people die every year from water born illnesses. That includes 3,900 children a day. The solution to this problem is directly beneath our feet. Drilling a fresh water well is a relatively inexpensive, yet permanent solution to this epidemic. $10 will give a child clean water for life. That’s not an estimate. It’s a fact.
And here’s another fact: Solving this water problem once and for all will cost about $10 billion. Not bad considering Americans spent $450 billion on Christmas last year. At Advent Conspiracy, our hope is that, by celebrating Christ in a new way at Christmas, the church can serve as the leading movement behind ending the water crisis once and for all.
The following video was put together by Advent Conspiracy to put a little more perspective on this crisis and what we can do about it:
Living Water International demonstrate the love of God by helping communities acquire desperately needed clean water, and to experience “living water”—the gospel of Jesus Christ—which alone satisfies the deepest thirst.
LWI does an incredible job in partnering with the communities they’re working in as they begin new projects – to hire local workers, train and equip them with job skills that provides more opportunities for these people long after the wells are finished.
Our church was a part of 30 wells that were completed in the Mt. Barklay area in Liberia in 2008. As the wells were being built, the first free school was also started. A school for women to learn skills that empower them to start their own businesses has been started. A medical clinic is up and running which we’ve heard has no cases of diarrhea from the people from their community. Many churches have been started in these communities as well.
The story of Christ’s birth is a story of promise, hope, and a revolutionary love.
So, what happened? What was once a time to celebrate the birth of a savior has somehow turned into a season of stress, traffic jams, and shopping lists.
And when it’s all over, many of us are left with presents to return, looming debt that will take months to pay off, and this empty feeling of missed purpose. Is this what we really want out of Christmas?
It begins with water. The knowledge that by just spending less on Christmas presents last year, there are people alive and healing today is the most incredible gift that I can think of.
Christmas can still change the world. Will you join us?
To donate $1 to Living Water International to help provide clean water for millions of people around the world, click here. Please use “One Dollar Give” in the dedication portion of the donation form. After you’ve donated, come back and vote in the poll so that we can count donations!
(Yes, the poll offers you the choice between “Yes.” and “Yes.” because I didn’t think we really needed to count the “No” answers, and the poll required two choices! Hey, it’s not a perfect system, but it’ll work!)

I’m very curious to know what the response has been each day….I see the “voting” totals aren’t very high. Are you getting many donations?
Hey Jill! That is a good question and one I’m trying to figure out myself. I’ve got a call in to Network for Good to see if they can help me figure out what the totals each day are. We have over 75 people subscribed, so I’m assuming that a portion of people aren’t coming back to vote, but we’ll see. If they can’t do it, I’m going to have to try to touch base with each individual charity to get the numbers, but I may wait until the New Year to do that, if only because there are still people contributing to the older posts.
Thanks for asking!
What you are doing is such a great idea!! I hope you do it year after year….because it really does have the potential to catch on and grow into something huge!
I certainly enjoy waking up each morning and learning about new charities. So thank you for all your time, energy and effort that went into this!
