Eight and a half years ago, my son was diagnosed as developmentally delayed. We were looking at a long, difficult road ahead of us. It took another four years before he received the diagnosis of Autism. Back in the beginning, I was scared, confused, and didn’t know where to begin. I walked into the office of the Lee County Partnership for Children, a local, nonprofit agency that is geared towards promoting programs to help children 5 and under.

They had a program that could help us, and instead of putting us on a waiting list, immediately signed us up. I have been a strong supporter of the LCPFC ever since and am now a parent representative on their board of directors.

A new program that the LCPFC has taken on is to get books to every child under the age of five. They have become the local champion for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Parents in our county can now register to have a book sent to their child every month until that child reaches the age of five. There are no conditions or financial requirements to meet, except the child has to live in Lee County, NC.

The LCPFC was able to cover the start-up costs of this program, but is in need of continuous donations to keep it going. The gift of a book to a child is one of the greatest gifts you can give. An age appropriate book for a child every month until their 5th birthday is fantastic.

To donate $1 to Lee County Partnership for Children to help provide books to children who might not otherwise receive them, click here. Please use “One Dollar Give” in the dedication portion of the donation form. After you’ve donated, come back and vote in the poll so that we can count donations!

(Yes, the poll offers you the choice between “Yes.” and “Yes.” because I didn’t think we really needed to count the “No” answers, and the poll required two choices! Hey, it’s not a perfect system, but it’ll work!)
