Day 18, The Pajama Program

I was recently introduced to The Pajama Program at work when the women’s network was hosting a collection drive. My heart was caught by the program’s mission.
The Pajama Program provides comfort and love in the way of new pajamas and books to children in need and children waiting and hoping to be adopted. By providing pajamas and books, they help create a warm and nurturing bedtime environment for vulnerable youngsters living under difficult circumstances.
These are children who may not know the comforts of a mother or father to tuck them into a cozy bed and read them a bedtime story. Many have been abandoned or abused. Most are deprived of any love at all.
I am blessed to have warm childhood memories of getting into my PJs for a bedtime story from Mom or Dad. I can’t imagine every child not being able to have wonderful memories like that. I still love climbing into bed with my PJs and a good book before I go to sleep, and I am continuing the tradition with my son.
This is why I’ve hosted or planned three collection drives over the last month to support the Louisiana Chapter of The Pajama Program. This chapter is based in and provides for my hometown of New Orleans as well as other towns across the state. Since Hurricane Katrina, the number of children living in poverty in the city of New Orleans increased to over 30%. I am sure that number has increased throughout the state of Louisiana since Hurricanes Rita, Gustav, and Ike.
Your contribution to The Pajama Program will help make a difference in these children’s lives, and bring some them much needed warmth and love! Thank you! Have a few extra minutes? Watch Pajama Program founder Genevieve Piturro on Oprah last year - what an amazing story!
To donate $1 to The Pajama Program and help provide pajamas and books to children in need, click here. IMPORTANT NOTE: Please designate “Louisiana chapter” in the designation portion and use “One Dollar Give” in the dedication portion of the donation form. After you’ve donated, come back and vote in the poll so that we can count donations!
(Yes, the poll offers you the choice between “Yes.” and “Yes.” because I didn’t think we really needed to count the “No” answers, and the poll required two choices! Hey, it’s not a perfect system, but it’ll work!)

Thank you again to everyone who has donated to the Pajama Program!! Here’s a link to just some of what we’ve been able to gather so far to donate. http://tinyurl.com/46w2jw
