FAQs about The One Dollar Give
I wanted to answer a few questions about how The One Dollar Give will work since we’re getting closer to the launch in just 5 days! I can’t wait to see what happens in December as we all band together!
Making Donations
To start, the donations will all be either made directly to the featured organization of the day or through the Network for Good, a convenient online donation network that partners with over 1.5 million different charities. No money will pass through The One Dollar Give at all.
Counting Donations
This does make tracking the donations a little more difficult, and while I’m still working on a way to get the final numbers from the featured organizations so that we can see our dollars at work, I’ve come up with a way to track it in the meantime. Basically, we’ll have a poll for each featured organization, and you’ll be able to “vote” after you’ve made your donation so that the donations can be anonymously counted.
Transaction Fees
The one downside to a campaign such as this is admittedly the transaction fees that will be deducted from the donations by the credit card companies and/or Paypal on each $1 transaction. It is our hope that as the campaign grows, we will be able to secure sponsors to cover those fees, but in the meantime, there is another way that you can help minimize them. Please note, however, that this is absolutely NOT mandatory to participate, and we’d rather you just donate $1 a day than to not participate at all because you don’t want to do it this way.
Basically, Network for Good offers “Good Cards”, which are like gift cards that can then be allocated to whichever organization you choose. If you purchase a $30 (there are just a couple organizations that we’ll be featuring that are not included in Network for Good) Good Card, you can then allocate $1 each day to the featured charity, and the processing company will only receive one transaction fee. Please also note that there is a $5 charge on Good Cards to cover the cost of expenses on the part of Network for Good.
Finally, if you are donating by credit card or PayPal, you will notice when you complete your donation that there is a 4.75% grant on each donation that goes to Network for Good. You are able to either add this to your $1 donation (which makes the total $1.04) or deduct it from the donation. The choice is yours which option to choose; I just wanted to make you aware of it before the time comes.
