As we approached the 2008 holiday season, we became more and more acutely aware of the amount of need that exists around each us. While many of us are feeling the effects of the downturn in the economy, there are millions of people around the world, many even in our own country, who don’t have enough food or enough money to heat their homes, and in the poorer nations of the world, these people don’t even have clean water or access to basic or emergency healthcare.

The One Dollar Give is a campaign to change the world one life at a time. Each day during December we will feature a different charity with a link to donate through their site or Network for Good, and we’re asking you to give just $1 to each charity. Our hope is that participants in the project will be willing to set aside $31 in December so that we can provide the funds for some awesome charities to do more of what they do every day.

As we head into 2009, we hope to continue The One Dollar Give on a weekly basis, featuring more great charities and watching our $1 donations add up. If you have a favorite charity that you’d like to see featured and would like to write a guest post introducing us to it, please visit the Contributors page for more information.

Additionally, we hope that this campaign will introduce you to some really great charities, and that you’ll each find one your passionate about to continue giving to on a regular basis.

Although we do hope to eventually have advertisements on the site, please rest assured that all revenue will be invested at MicroPlace.com, a social business owned by eBay that offers small business loans starting at just $20 to help the poor in third-world countries around the world start and expand their own businesses, giving them a hand-up out of poverty.
